In one of the tiniest towns of France, in the middle of the French countryside, we found an amazing place to stay: La Vieille Ferme (the old farm). It is a small bed & breakfast, owned by two British people.

As soon as we entered the property of the B&B I enjoyed the incredible silence that this place has to offer. We walked around a bit and then entered the old farm. The owners were in the kitchen, busy preparing dinner for tonight, but they enthusiastically welcomed us the second we stepped through the door. The smell coming from the kitchen was so good that we immediately decided to join them for dinner. The owner, Peter, checked us in and gave us a tour around the old farm en eventually: our room.

Our room is perfect! Spacious, modern bathroom and very clean. The interior of the room suits the architecture of the farm and the big, wooden furniture makes you feel like you went back in time.

I like the fact that everything in this B&B is so authentic: big wooden ceiling beams, old wooden floors, walls of stone and original doors with authentic doorknobs. Everything is crooked and uneven, but that’s what makes it so special 😜

Like I said: from the first moment we smelled the amazing smell coming from the kitchen, we decided to join them for dinner. Every guest can join for dinner. It is served every day at 8 pm.
We entered the communal dining space and saw a big wooden table with candles, wine glasses, bread baskets, water and beautiful crockery and cutlery.

The starter consisted of salmon and grilled vegetables. They try to cook as much as possible with local products and preferably with vegetables from their own garden, The vegetables used in our meals (tomatoes and courgette) were harvested in their own garden as well. It was truly delicious! The dinner consisted of three courses and included an appetizer as well. After dinner, we talked a bit with the owners. It turned out that Peter, our host, had been a professional cook back in the days. That explained why the food was so extraordinary tasteful. Happy and fulfilled we went upstairs for a good night of sleep.

The next morning, we got up early and went downstairs again for some breakfast. We were surprised by the amount of choice we had for breakfast. A whole table was full of fresh products like fruit, bread, croissants, juices, cheese, ham and so on. I had a hard time choosing what to eat. Although Peter had been a professional cook, his wife (Su) has a true talent herself: the yoghurt served at breakfast is homemade by her! The milk used to make the yoghurt is bought from a local farmer and Su then turns it into amazing yoghurt with a lot of taste. The yoghurt is then divided over several glass jars and completed with some muesli or strawberries from their garden. Delicious! We made ourselves a cup of coffee and enjoyed our breakfast in the greenhouse with the sunrise warming our faces up. What an amazing experience!
