It’s day 5 of our roadtrip through Scandinavia. We’re staying the night at a quiet campsite in Slagn\u00e4s, a small town in Swedish Lapland. We’re starting to notice that we’re traveling outside the summer season since a lot of touristic places are closing very early or are closed already for the rest of the winter. Nevertheless we’re really enjoying our trip and luckily there’s a lot of beautiful nature here in Swedish Lapland to discover. Very close to our campsite (Slagn\u00e4s campsite) is a river named Skellefte\u00e4lven. Near a steel bridge built in 1942 goes a path down to the riverside. On both sides of the river is a nice footbridge which gives you the opportunity to have a walk along the riverside.<\/p>\n

Not very far away from the bridge you’ll find a fish house named ‘Sven’s Fish House’. It is an unique fish trap that was rebuilt. The original was built by villager Sven Fors\u00e9n built in the late 1940’s. Whitefish would go up in shallow water to eat mosquitoes. Their only way back from shallow water to the river was through Sven’s Fish House. One reason for building the fish house was to avoid the fishing nets and it was an easy way to secure a steady supply of fish. At the time the fish house was built, fish was a much more important food source than today.<\/p>\n

Following the path will eventually lead you to a hydro power dam. \u00a0Power\u00a0is here derived from the\u00a0energy\u00a0of falling water. From here you have an amazing view over the\u00a0Skellefte\u00e4lven river.<\/p>\n

Slagn\u00e4s campsite<\/h2>\n

Slagn\u00e4s campsite is a perfect place to stay when you’re on transit to the Northkape because it’s near the E45 to the north. It’s small and simple but all facilities you need are there and everything is clean. There are no supermarkets nearby but you’ll get nice freshly baked buns served by breakfast. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
